Latency vs. Responsiveness

Hi all,

Some of iMailShot users complained that they did not see all their contacts when tapping on "All contacts".

Well, this is partly true in fact :)

To make a long story short, when users have tons of contacts, an application may hang a moment until all the contacts are loaded and sorted by name...so I decided to do the following:

- 1 When taping on the "All contacts", I first quickly load the 30 first contacts from your address book

- 2 Then I load in background the rest of the contacts

So if you wait a little bit (a little bit more if you have more than 500 contacts), you will finally see all your contacts.

Concerning the email/phone used for mass emailing of mass text messaging, you still choose which phone number or which email address to use for each contact by first taping on "Details" and then tap on the contact's phone number or email: then you select the correct email or phone number from your contact card.

Templates Design: using open source materials

Hi all,
I decided to keep you informed about my current investigations and work on the iMailShot application.
I have now finalized the application framework so that I can now concentrate on the templates.

Templates have to meet several requisites:

• Each picture has to be licence free, so I often use the Wikimedia website to find my background pics.
• Each template has to be original and eye catching, so I heavy use Gimp to enrich the content of the templates

I am currently working on the brush feature of Gimp: I found several websites that propose free brushes for Gimp (Gimp > 2.6 accepts Photoshop brushes btw) like BrushEzzy or FreeBrushes

A brush effect alone is not that sexy to use alone, so I often use it as a basis for the mapping feature of Gimp, thus you can have very beautiful embossing effects on your bakcgrounds.

I also found very usefull informations about perspective effects : yet, Gimp has the feature built-in but the user is still responsible to define the line of horizon and the creepage. Here the french website Bases du Dessin helps (if you speak french :)

This note is dedicated to the usage of iMailShot.

Home page

This page allows to:

• Select a group to whom you want to send a message or a flyer.
• Remive a group by swipping-right on the cell that contains the group to remove. The remove option will then appear.
• Visualize the flyers stored in your iPhone by scrollig left/right the coverflow. You can edit a flyer by tapping once on the flyer. If the flyer name appears between brackets, it means that this flyer is a template.

Flyer edition

This page appears when you want to modify a flyer.

• Tap on the pictures to change and replace the picture with one of your Photo album.
• Tap on the different texts to change them to your convenience.
• Saveyour modifications with the button "Save".
• Cancel your modification with the button "Cancel".
• Remove a flyer by tapping on the "Trash" button (if the button does not appear, it means the actual flyer is not yet saved in your iPhone).

Recipients selection

When you select a group, the iMailShot application lists all your contacts which belong to this group. Hence, the meta group "All" contains all the contacts of your addressbook.

On this page you can:

• Select/Unselect members of the group by taping on the member cell.
• Remove a member from the group with a right-swipe on the member cell. The suppress option appears then.
• Send an email, sms or a flyer to the selected members with the button "Message".
• Add the selected members to another group with the button "Grouping".

Grouping

The grouping options allow to:

• Add the selected contacts to another group.
• To modify the group attributes, like name and details.

Group attributes

This page allows to modify the group attributes such as name and details.

Add to another group

A list of the available groups appears, then tap on the group you want to use or tap the "+" button to create a new group. If some of the selected contacts partially belong to a group, the group name will appear in blue.
Note: You can also remove several contacts from a group by unticking the group name in this page.

Send a message

This page allows to send a message by 3 means:

• A text message by SMS
• A simple text message by email
• A flyer which will then be sent by email.

Send a flyer

This page allows to:

• Select the flyer that you want to send. Select the flyer and then press "OK".
• Edit a flyer before sending it. Select the flyer and then press "Edit".

Cette page vous permet de :

• Séléctionner le groupe auquel vous désirez envoyer un mail, sms ou flyer en tapant sur la cellule du groupe.
• Supprimer un groupe en effectuant un touché-glissé vers la droite sur la cellule. L'option supprimer apparait alors.
• Visualiser les flyers sotckés sur votre iPhone en effectuant un touché-glissé vers la droite ou la gauche sur les flyers. Vous pouvez les éditer en tapant un fois dessus. Lorsque le nom du flyer apparait entre crochets, cela signifie que ce flyer est un modèle.

Edition d'un flyer

Cette page apparait lorsque vous souhaitez modifier un flyer.

• Tapez sur les images pour en changer et les remplacer par une image contenue dans votre album photo.
• Tapez sur les différents textes pour les modifier à votre convenance.
• Enregistrez vos modification avec le bouton "Enregistrer"
• Annulez vos modification avec le bouton "Annuler"
• Supprimez un flyer en tapant sur l'icone "Trash" (si l'icone n'apparait pas, cela signifie que le flyer actuel n'est pas encore réellement créé sur votre iPhone.

Sélection des destinataires

Lorsque vous sélectionnez un groupe, l'application iMailShot affiche la liste de vos contacts appartenant à ce groupe. Ainsi le méta-groupe "Tous" contient l'ensemble des contacts de votre carnet d'adresse.

Sur cette page vous pouvez:

• Sélectionner/Dé-sélectionner les contacts du groupe que vous voulez utiliser en tapant sur le contact.
• Retirer un contact du groupe en effectuant un touché-glissé vers la droite sur le contact. L'option "Supprimer" apparait alors.
• Séctionner/dé-sélectionner tous les contacts du groupe avec le bouton "Tous"/"Aucun".
• Envoyer un email, un sms ou un flyer aux contacts sélectionnés avec le bouton "Message"
• Ajouter les contacts sélectionnés à un autre ou nouveau groupe avec le bouton "Groupage".

Groupage

Les options de groupage permettent :

• D'ajouter les contacts sélectionnés à un autre groupe
• De modifier les attributs du groupe actuel tels que les nom et les détails.

Cette page permet de modifier les attributs du groupe tels que le nom et les détails du groupe.

Ajouter à un autre groupe

Une liste des groupes disponibles apparait, tapez sur le groupe que vous souhaitez utiliser ou tapez sur le bouton "+"pour créer un nouveau groupe. Si certains des contacts sélectionnés font partie d'un groupe, le groupe apparait en bleu.
Note: Vous pouvez aussi retirer plusieurs personnes d'un groupe en tapant 2 fois sur le groupe: le pointage disparait et les contacts sélectionnés seront retirés du groupe.

Envoyer un message

Cette page permet d'envoyer un message de 3 manières:

• Une message texte par SMS
• Un message simple par email
• Un flyer qui sera ensuite envoyé par email

Envoyer un flyer

Cette page permet de

• Choisir le flyer que vous souhaitez envoyer. Faites apparaitre le flyer que vous souhaitez envoyer en effectuant un touché-glissé vers la gauche ou la droite puis tapez sur le bouton "OK"
• Modifier un flyer avant de l'envoyer. Sélectionnez le flyer à modifier puis tapez sur le bouton "Modifier".
